ABOUT ZACH GILLISPIE
FOUNDER | ZACH AT THE TRACK
I grew up just a stone’s throw away from Charlotte Motor Speedway, and that’s where my fascination with motorsports began.
My family wasn’t into racing, but when you grow up that close to one of the most famous racetracks in the United States, it’s hard not to feel the pull. I still remember taking a field trip there when I was in kindergarten. Seeing the track up close planted a seed that never really went away.
As I got older, that curiosity turned into a full-blown obsession. By the time I was a teenager, I was constantly pestering my parents to take my brother and I to races. There was just something about racecars, racetracks, and the people around them that captured my imagination.
And honestly, I’ve never been able to shake that childhood fascination with racing.
For years I had the idea for Zach at the Track in the back of my mind, but I finally decided to start the project in 2025.
Zach at the Track exists to document and preserve the stories of grassroots racing — the short tracks, the drivers, and the communities that built the sport long before it became what it is today.
Across the country, many of these tracks are disappearing, and many of the racers who lived those stories are getting older. Some of them are already gone. That reality scares me, because every time a track closes or a racer passes away, another piece of racing history disappears with them.
I know I won’t be able to document every story, and that thought alone is enough motivation to keep going.
This project is about preserving as many of those stories as possible before they’re lost.
It’s also about the future. One day I hope to have kids and grandkids, and I want them to grow up in a world where racing still exists. I want them to be able to experience the sights, sounds, and culture of local racetracks the same way generations before them did.
Zach at the Track is my small way of helping protect that future by preserving the past.
Every video, every interview, and every track visit is part of that mission.
When you purchase Zach at the Track merchandise, you’re helping make those stories possible. Every item helps fund travel to racetracks, interviews with drivers and fans, and the work required to document racing history before it disappears.
More support means more tracks, more stories, and more history preserved.
